Mangaluru, 08 August 2026: As part of its NSS activities, BIT Polytechnic Mangaluru organised a visit to Sheikh Zayed Old Age Home & Orphanage, Manimunda, Uppala, Kasaragod, Kerala, on 8 August 2026. The visit was undertaken by students of the 1st Year Mechanical Engineering department with the aim of fostering empathy, compassion and social responsibility among students.
During the visit, the students interacted with the elderly residents, engaged them in friendly conversations and listened to their experiences. The students also participated in recreational and interactive activities, creating a cheerful and welcoming atmosphere for the residents.
The initiative provided students with a meaningful opportunity to understand the importance of caring for senior citizens and supporting vulnerable members of society. It also helped them develop communication skills, teamwork, empathy and a stronger sense of social responsibility.
The visit reinforced the spirit of the NSS motto, “Not Me But You,” encouraging students to recognise the importance of service and responsible citizenship.
The NSS activity was successfully conducted and left a positive impression on both the students and the residents, making it a valuable learning and community-service experience for the participants.
