BIT Polytechnic Students Visit GTTC and Gurucharan Industries

Mangaluru, 20 July 2026: The Department of Mechanical Engineering at BIT Polytechnic Mangaluru organised an industrial visit to the Government Tool Room and Training Centre (GTTC) and Gurucharan Industries, Baikampady, for third-year Diploma Mechanical Engineering students. The visit was aimed at strengthening students’ practical understanding of manufacturing engineering and bridging the gap between classroom learning and industrial practices.

Visit to GTTC

At GTTC, students were introduced to advanced manufacturing technologies and precision engineering practices. The resource personnel explained GTTC’s role in skill development, tool design, product development, CNC machining, CAD/CAM applications and industrial training.

Students observed CNC turning and machining centres, wire-cut EDM, die and mould manufacturing processes, coordinate measuring equipment and quality inspection methods. The session also highlighted the importance of dimensional accuracy, process planning, preventive machine maintenance and adherence to industrial quality standards.

Visit to Gurucharan Industries

The students then visited Gurucharan Industries, where they were taken through various stages of the manufacturing process. Industry representatives explained the production flow, from raw material inspection and machining to fabrication, assembly, quality checking and dispatch.

Students observed conventional and modern machine tools used in production and gained insights into production planning, workplace organisation, inventory management and industrial safety. The interaction also emphasised the importance of technical competency, discipline, teamwork and continuous skill development for successful careers in manufacturing.
