As part of the student induction program, Bearys Polytechnic organized an insightful session on “BIM: The Digital Future of Engineering” on 1 July 2026, led by Mr. Shahim Usman K for first-year diploma students. The session introduced students to Building Information Modelling (BIM) and its growing significance in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry.
The resource person explained how BIM enables professionals to collaborate using intelligent digital models throughout a building’s lifecycle, from planning and design to construction and maintenance. Students learned about the key benefits of BIM, including improved visualization, clash detection, accurate quantity estimation, enhanced project planning, reduced costs, and sustainable construction practices.
The session also covered popular BIM software such as Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, Civil 3D, Tekla Structures, and Bentley applications, along with the integration of BIM with emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), IoT, digital twins, cloud computing, and drones. Students were encouraged to develop digital skills, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities to prepare for careers in construction, infrastructure, and smart city projects.
The interactive session concluded with a question-and-answer session, inspiring students to embrace modern engineering technologies and enhance their career readiness.
